Eguchi Wins Round 1 of PBR’s Atlantic City Invitational

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – At the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) first event in Atlantic City in 15 years, Marco Eguchi (Poa, Brazil) won Round 1, topping the 12 other riders to record a qualified ride during the opening round of the 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast’s Atlantic City Invitational.
The 27-year-old Brazilian scored an 87.75-point ride aboard Kimes Jeans Church Bells (Hale/Wallgren Bull Co.) to earn his second round win of the season. The top score earned Eguchi 100 points towards the world standings, propelling him to No. 27.
Recording matching 87.25-point trips, Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales, Australia), Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls, Montana) and two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) tied for second.
Each collected 50 world points for their 8-second efforts aboard Mickey Mouse (Deer Prairie Creek Bucking Bulls), Blue Boy (High View Cattle Co./Wallgren Bull Co.) and Hot Rod (Rickey West Bucking Bulls), respectively.
The runner-up finish during Round 1 allowed each rider to gain crucial ground in the world standings. Mauney is now ranked inside the Top 35, No. 32 after beginning the event No. 36, while Richardson and Triplett both rose four spots, now No. 31 and No. 30, respectively.
For Richardson, the qualified ride also snapped a seven-out buckoff streak for the Australian bull rider.
Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) finished fifth, earning 30 world points, marked 86.5 points on Jug Head (Rickey West Bucking Bulls).
The best bull riders in the world will return to historic Boardwalk Hall on Sunday, September 16 at 1:45 p.m. ET for the final rounds of the Atlantic City Invitational.
CBS Sports Network will televise all the action from Championship Sunday, including Round 2 and the Championship Round, starting at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 16.
