Mason Nabs Second Straight Win in Australia

TAMWORTH, Australia – The only rider to go 3-for-3, Dave Mason earned his second consecutive PBR Australia Cup Series event Saturday at the Tamworth Invitational.

In front of a sold-out crowd, Mason tallied a combined 259.5 points, including an 84-point ride in the first round, an 87.5-point effort in Round 2, and 88 points aboard Delta 32 in the championship round to secure the event win.

Twelve bull riders made the whistle in the first round, led by Cody Heffernan who led the round with 87.5 points aboard Disco Duck.

Matt Triplett, who finished second in the event, took Round 2 with 88 points ride against Lite Em Up, enough to secure him a spot in the championship round.

Triplett was the first to make the whistle in the final round, marking the highest score of the event with an 89.5-point ride on Blossom, giving him a total of 177.5 points for the event.

Heffernan would be the next to make a qualified ride, however, he only managed 88 points, putting him behind Triplett with 175.5 points. Then it came down to the final two, Mason and Lachlan Richardson. Mason took the lead from Triplett, leaving the pressure to Richardson, who was the last to ride.

Richardson’s bull draft pick, Storm Boy made quick work of him handing Mason his second win in consecutive weekends and making him a contender for the upcoming Australian title.
