Mason Wins 2014 Troy Dunn Invitational

TOWNSVILLE, Australia – Dave Mason took the home the 15th annual PBR Troy Invitational title on Saturday by using an event-best 89.5 points aboard Bailey’s Grasshopper in the championship to seal the victory.

Mason finished 3-for-3 and his 259.5 points edged out Built Ford Tough Series stars Silvano Alves (258) and Matt Triplett (257), the only other riders who covered all three of their bulls.

Alves nearly claimed the lead from Mason in the championship round when he rode 2013 Troy Dunn Invitational Bull of the Event Firecracker for 88 points.

Triplett had started the championship round off with an 88-point ride on Rebel Yell before Mason took over the top spot in the event average.

Saturday is Mason’s first PBR Australia Cup Series victory of the season.

Jason Mara finished in fourth place after originally entering the final round of action in the lead, but he bucked off The Hump in 7.5 seconds; Robson Palermo finished in fifth place with 166.5 points.

Roy Dunn, the nephew of Troy Dunn, won Round 1 with 85 points, while Mara and Cody Heffernan split Round 2 with 88-point rides.

The tour heads south next week to Tamworth, Australia, for the final PBR Australia Cup Series event of 2014.
