McDonald Jumps to Early Lead at PBR Canada National Finals

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – The climate may have been cold outside, but inside the Sasktel Center, a man from the South turned it up to leave Friday night in first place.

Mexico’s Rocky McDonald took the early lead at the PBR Canada National Finals with an 87-point effort on Devil’s Wing. McDonald’s score held up for the win and a spot in the Boulet Boots Face Off at the end of the night.

Canada’s Ty Pozzobon finished second in the round with 86 points on Boot Strap Bill. Pozzobon sustained a concussion when he was struck by the bull in the head on his dismount. He will not compete in Round 2 tonight.

Pozzobon’s travelling partner Chase Outlaw, who finished the season ranked 16th on the Built Ford Tough Series, scored 85.5 points on E.W.’s Bonnes to tie for third in Round 1. Outlaw replaced Pozzobon in the Boulet Boots Face Off, but neither he nor McDonald made the whistle against Freakazoid and Billy the Kid, respectively.

Three-time PBR Canadian Champion Aaron Roy made his return to action after being sidelined with a back injury at the 2013 Calgary Stampede. Roy bucked off Buffalo Chips in Round 1.

Tanner Byrne, Josh Birks and Cody Coverchuk rounded out the Top 6, and the remainder of qualified rides in Round 1.
