Medicine Woman, Dirty Jacket Repeat as Top Stock

by ProRodeo.com | Oct 19, 2015

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Both of the horses selected for the 2015 Pendleton Whisky “Let ’er Buck” Bucking Stock of the Year awards were repeat winners, with Frontier Rodeo’s Medicine Woman taking top saddle bronc riding honors, and Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Dirty Jacket voted the best bareback riding horse.

“I’m kind of surprised,” Frontier Rodeo Company Owner Jerry Nelson said of Medicine Woman’s win. “Normally you don’t see the same horse repeat, and this was her third time to win. It’s pretty special.”

Medicine Woman’s other selection as best saddle bronc horse came in 2011, and she also tied for third in the voting in 2013.

“She’s just honest,” Nelson said. “There are no tricks or nothing. You open the gate and she bucks. If you ride her, you can win every time. There are no days off on her. She has the same trip, same style, same everything – every time.”

This year’s second-place horse, Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Killer Bee, was voted top saddle bronc horse at the WNFR in 2013 and top bareback horse there in 2014.

Dirty Jacket continues a recent run of great success, as the horse won the award in 2014, was second in 2013 and placed third in 2012 – making it four consecutive years in the top three.

This year’s second-place bareback horse, Frontier Rodeo’s Full Baggage, won this award in 2011 and 2013, and was second in 2012 and 2014, so that’s five consecutive finishes in the top two. Full Baggage was also the top WNFR bareback horse in 2010 and 2012.

The top bull of 2015 is Growney Brothers Rodeo’s Crystal Deal. The bull was second last year and third in 2013, and was voted the WNFR’s top bull in 2013. Last year’s winner of the top stock award, Cross the Wyoming Line, tied for third in this year’s voting.
