Stillwater, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo team is back from a muddy mess at the Oklahoma State University Rodeo in Stillwater, Okla this past weekend, October 5-7. Although the rain made for less than ideal ground conditions, the Panhandle State team stayed focused and demonstrated true grit and determination bringing back three individual event titles. The men’s team won the rodeo with 585 points, 210 points ahead of the next team. The women’s team ended up fifth. One of the highlights of the weekend is that Panhandle State earned both all-around titles.

Once again, Will Martin proved that he is a cowboy of many talents winning the All-Around Title for the second consecutive weekend. Martin won the long round in the Bareback Riding with a score of 75 points. He then scored 66 points in the short round, which placed him in a tie for first and second place in the aggregate. His teammate Dylan Riggins also covered both of his horses. Martin got down in the mud in the Steer Wrestling and obtained a time of 5.7 seconds in the long round but didn’t receive a time in the short round.

Panhandle State dominated the Saddle Bronc Riding with seven men spurring their way into the short round. The Aggies proved that they earned their spots in the short round and came out with the first through fifth place in the aggregate. Dawson Dahm scored 71 points in the long round and split the first and second place in the short round with a 77 point score, which gave him the Saddle Bronc Champion Title. Dawson Hay was a close second scoring 67 points in the long round and 77 points in the short round. Jake Finlay made two nice bronc rides and earned the third spot in the average followed by Preston Ogle in fourth place, and Chance Barrass in fifth place. Logan Hay and Rowdy Chesser were also part of the team’s successful outcome.

Also on the men’s side, Australian Bull Rider Callum Miller made it back to the short round with a score of 71 points. A tough short round with only one qualified time gave Miller the third spot in the aggregate on one bull.

One cowgirl had a weekend to remember. Shay Spitz won the Womens All-Around Title. Spitz was the only Panhandle State cowgirl to make it back in the breakaway roping and she didn’t disappoint. Spitz was quick in both rounds with times of 2.8 seconds and 2.9 seconds therefore winning the Breakaway Champion Title. Spitz won the first round of the barrel racing with a time of 16.2 seconds in a very tough group of barrel racers. Spitz made another fast run in the short round giving her the Reserve Barrel Racing Champion Title.

Panhandle State had two girls in the short round of the goat tying. Kaylee Smith made two good runs with times of 8.3 seconds and 8.9 seconds placing her fifth in the average and her teammate Baylee Henderson won second place in the long round with a time of 7.5 seconds.

The Panhandle State Rodeo team had another successful rodeo this weekend and plan on making their last fall rodeo in Alva, Okla., October 26-28, the best one yet!
