BILLINGS, Mont. – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) rookie and Montana native Jess Lockwood brought the home state crowd to their feet after winning the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) Stanley Performance In Action Invitational Sunday afternoon at Rimrock Auto Arena, and in only his third event at PBR’s elite level, becoming an immediate contender for the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series World Championship.

“It means the world to do this [win] in my home state; just to be able to do it anywhere on the Built Ford Tough Series, really” Lockwood beamed.  “Every time I show up I expect to win, but you just have to ride your bulls and what happens, happens.”

The 18-year-old high school student swept Sunday, winning both Round 3 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round with an 89.5-point ride on Alligator Arms (Jeff Robinson/TNT Bucking Bulls) and a clutch 90.5-point ride on Modified Clyde (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Ken Barnhard), respectively. His ride on Modified Clyde was the highest-scored ride of the weekend and the first 90-point ride of his BFTS career.

Lockwood secured 745 points towards the world standings with his two round wins and tying for third in Round 1. The Volborg, Montana, bull rider has won at least one round in his first three Built Ford Tough Series events since debuting in in Sioux Falls three weeks ago and leaves Billings as the 14th ranked rider in the world.

For the second year in a row, the PBR welcomed more than 20,000 fans to the Rimrock Auto Arena during the three-day event.

Brazilian Eduardo Aparecido finished in second place after going 3-for-4 on the weekend, which was capped by an 89.25-point trip aboard Cooper Tires Brown Sugar (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen) in the championship round. Aparecido totaled 350 world standings points, placing sixth in Round 1, tying for fourth in Round 2, and picking up a second-place finish in the championship round.

Cooper Davis led the event for most of the weekend before settling for third place and 340 points towards the world standings. Davis tied for third place in Round 1, placed second in Round 2 and tied for second place in Round 3 before being bucked off by his championship round bull Legal Tender (Rockin’ I Rodeo).

Australian Kurt Shephard landed an 87-point ride on Sheep Creek(J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen) in the championship round for 50 world standings points. Shephard placed fourth in the event overall and amassed 160 points toward the world standings overall.

Jorge Valdiviezo rounded out the Top 5, earning 120 world points after tying for second in Round 2 and fifth in the event. The Mexican bull rider entered Montana outside the Top 35, but leaves as the 31st ranked bull rider in the world, earning a spot on the BFTS.

Last night during the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle, Sweet Pro’s Long John (D&H Cattle Co.) bucked off Gage Gay in 4.35 seconds for a 46.5-point bull score to earn the NationLease High-Marked Bull award.

The PBR will now roll into Des Moines, Iowa, for the Des Moines Invitational where the Wells Fargo Arena will host the top bull riders in the world April 23-24.

Billings was the 14th of 26 stops on the PBR’s 2016 Built Ford Tough Series. The tour will make a stop in Des Moines, Iowa, for the Des Moines Invitational on April 23-24 at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Round 2 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round of the Des Moines Invitational will air on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, April 24 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can also watch all of the action in real time on PBR LIVE online at www.pbr.com/live, or via the PBR LIVE app, which is available for download now on Google Play and iTunes.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. Television ratings for PBR on CBS are up 29 percent this season compared to last year at this time, according to Nielsen. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
