More than Milk; Western Canada’s Top Dairy Cattle Battle for Bragging Rights!
Calgary – The best dairy cattle in Western Canada are gathering at Stampede Park to battle for bragging rights at the annual Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic Championship Show. The popular event takes place April 21-22, 2017 in the historic Victoria Pavilion.
Nearly 50 Jersey cows and heifers and close to 100 Holsteins are settling into their stalls in the Stampede’s agriculture barn, with competition to get underway on Friday morning. When judging begins, producers young and old will showcase their animals in 35 classes where they will be marked on their conformation and characteristics. There are also four youth showmanship classes.

Five Facts about the Dairy Classic & Dairy Cattle:
1. Youth as young as 11 years old are showing animals at the Dairy Classic in 2017.
2. Dairy producers from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia are in attendance.
3. An average dairy cow produces more than 30 litres of milk a day.
4. Approximately 95 per cent of dairy cattle in Canada are Holsteins.
5. Dairy cattle have been shown at Stampede Park since 1886 (originally the Calgary Exhibition).
