National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to Host Annual Rodeo Hall of Fame Inductions and Awards Weekend

Best in the West to be recognized September 30 – October 1

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum will host its annual Rodeo Hall of Fame Weekend September 30 – October 1, celebrating rodeo legends being inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame, as well as Ben Johnson Memorial Award and Tad Lucas Memorial Award recipients. Since 1955, cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation have been inducted into the Museum’s Rodeo Hall of Fame, home to the world’s largest national rodeo collection.

“The National Cowboy Museum is proud to long celebrate rodeo with the men and women who helped make it not just a Western tradition, but an American tradition,” said Museum President and CEO Steven Karr. “Rodeo Hall of Fame Weekend invites both rodeo enthusiasts and members of the public to come together and celebrate what remains an important to so many individuals—and families—across the country.”

Rodeo legends to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year include Jake Barnes, Ote Berry, Clay O’Brien Cooper, Walt Linderman, Dan O. “Bud” and Jimmie Gibbs Munroe, and Wick Peth. The recipient of the Tad Lucas Memorial Award is Amberley Snyder, and the recipient of the Ben Johnson Memorial Award is Jack Roddy.

Hall of Fame inductions and awards are sponsored and selected by the Rodeo Historical Society, an organization affiliated with the Museum whose worldwide members share an interest in preserving both rodeo history and the sport itself. Membership supports the Museum’s rodeo programs, including research, an oral history project, acquisition of materials for the American Rodeo Gallery, and the prestigious Rodeo Hall of Fame. Sharon Shoulders, current Rodeo Historical Society President, is the spouse of Jim Shoulders, sixteen-time world champion cowboy and Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee. Mr. and Mrs. Shoulders were an integral part of the Museum’s original groundbreaking in the 1960s.

Rodeo Hall of Fame Weekend will include a cocktail reception September 30 at 5:30 p.m. and the Champions’ Dinner and Award Ceremony on October 1 at 5:30 p.m.
