New Leaders Top Four Events at Fort Worth Rodeo

for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two performances of the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® on Sunday meant capacity crowds watched four individuals move into the overall lead in their respective events at the Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo.

During the afternoon performance, Clayton Tuchscherer of Dona Ana, N.M., moved into first place in the second round with a time of 4.5 seconds. The 2015 reserve champion steer wrestler in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s (PRCA) Turquoise Circuit has the overall lead with a total of 10.2 seconds on two runs.

Barrel Racer Kelly Tovar of Rockdale, Texas, turned the cloverleaf pattern in 16.60 seconds which tied her for the lead with Kellie Collier of Hereford, Texas. Tovar is currently ranked 17th in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association’s world championship standings. A good finish here would likely boost her into the top 10 for 2016.

Bareback bronc rider Mason Clements of Sandy, Utah, cultivated his lead during both performances. Clements, who had already taken the first round lead on Saturday night, followed his 82.5 score on Friday night with a 79-point effort on Lancaster & Jones Pro Rodeo’s Peppermint after being awarded a re-ride on Sunday afternoon. That put him in second place in the second round of competition.

Clements, who finished 2015 ranked 40th, came back Sunday evening with an 80-point ride on J Bar J Rodeo’s Rollin’ Lizard to take the third round lead. His total of 241.5 points is more than 10 points better than his closest challenger at this early stage of the 29-performance rodeo.

The bull riding competition heated up with a pair of world champions in the mix at both performances. Sunday afternoon reigning and two-time PRCA world champion Sage Kimzey of Strong City, Okla., tied for the first round lead when he rode Lancaster & Jones Pro Rodeo’s Gas Monkey for 85.5 points. Former Professional Bull Riders (PBR) world champion Ednei Caminhas tallied 83.5 points on Lancaster & Jones’ Brown Sugar.

During the evening performance, Caminhas, a Brazilian who lives in Denton, Texas, rode Rafter G Rodeo’s Neidermeyer for 85 points. His score was half a point less than Tate Stratton of Kellyville, Okla., who rode Rafter G’s Thunderstruck.

The 40-year-old Caminhas who is competing against riders half his age holds the overall lead with 168.5 points.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo continues Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Fort Worth’s historic Will Rogers Coliseum. A fresh set of bareback, saddle bronc and bull riders will make their first rides at this year’s rodeo along with a new set of team ropers, tie-down ropers and barrel racers. Steer wrestlers will continue their second round of competition.
