Nobles Wins $16,000+ at Fort Worth’s Bulls’ Night Out

FORT WORTH, Texas – Forty bull riders took their best shot at the lead at Bulls’ Night Out at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Wednesday. They were trying to jettison Lane Nobles of Gatesville, Texas, from the number one position he earned Tuesday during the first night of the two-day event.

Bulls’ Night Out is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s (PRCA) Xtreme Bulls Tour and offers nearly $65,000 in prize money, making it an important competition for earning championship points. Big wins at an event like this often translate to qualifications for the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and the Xtreme Bulls Championships.

With that much at stake, several of the top-ranked bull riders in the country were among those taking aim at Nobles’ lead, including five cowboys who finished 2017 among the top 15 in the world championship standings.

Only eight of the 40 riders stayed on their bulls for the required eight seconds. Boudreaux Campbell of Crockett, Texas, who finished 10th last season, was the most successful. He scored 88 points on Hurst Pro Rodeo’s Yellow Hair.

Those eight cowboys qualified to compete on a second bull and were joined by two others, who made the field for the short round by random draw. Only one of the 10 was successful in making a qualified ride. Utah’s Joe Frost, who finished fourth in the world last year, rode a bull named Foolish Crimes from the 4L & Diamond S Rodeo string for 77 points and a fourth-place overall finish.

Nobles lead held, and he was crowned the champion, winning more than $16,000 for his efforts. In addition to that paycheck, the win gives the Texas cowboy a huge boost in the Xtreme Bulls standings putting him just $227 behind leader Trevor Kastner of Roff, Okla. Kastner, who finished second here, added $11,761 in winnings to his previous tour earnings in this young season which gave him the slight edge.

Winnings at Bulls’ Night Out also put Nobles momentarily in the top five of the PRCA bull riding world standings, with the National Western Stock Show Rodeo in Denver currently halfway through its 20-performance 2018 run and Fort Worth’s World’s Original Indoor Rodeo beginning a 29-performance run on Friday.

The action at Will Rogers Coliseum on Wednesday night also featured junior bull riding for youngsters 11 through 15 years of age. Cooper Lane of Keller, Texas, scored 77.5 points to win a trophy buckle and $100 in $1 bills. Lane also represented the Fort Worth Rodeo at the Junior National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.

The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo hosts the fifth annual Fort Worth Super Shootout®, presented by Schaefer, Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. Limited tickets remain for this unique, tournament-style rodeo that features winners from eight of North America’s biggest rodeos competing in five events for bragging rights and $10,000 to each event winner.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo takes the arena at Will Rogers Coliseum beginning Friday, January 19, and continues for 29 performances over 16 days.
