COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – 2010 PBR World Champion Renato Nunes captured his second victory of the season, taking the Built Ford Tough Rumble in the Rockies title Sunday with a 90-point ride atop Modified Clyde (Dakota Rodeo- Berger/Struve) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. It was his second straight BFTS event win. The last time Nunes won back-to-back events was in 2010, when he won his World Championship.

“That was a long time ago,” Nunes said. “Since then, I’ve been up and down, but now, my mentality is good and I feel really good. I’m ready to go. This win was great. I’m the happiest guy in the building right now.”

Fabiano Vieira led going into Sunday’s championship round, as the only bull rider to cover each of his first three bulls. It looked as if he was going to be perfect for the event, before he was tossed from Cowtown Slinger (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/Clay Struve) right at the 8-second buzzer. A replay of the ride showed he lost his rope just .15 seconds from the 8-second mark, preventing him from claiming his third win of the season.

With the help of his win in Round 1 Friday, his second place finish in the 15/15 Bucking Battle Saturday and his fourth place finish overall, Vieira into the No. 1 spot in the PBR world standings, 200 points ahead of Guilherme Marchi. Marchi had held the No. 1 spot for nine consecutive weeks.

Two-time World Champion Silvano Alves (258.75) captured second place at the event, which moved him from fifth to fourth in the world standings.

2013 Rookie of the Year Joao Ricardo Vieira (255.25) landed in third place, followed by Vieira (255) and Markus Mariluch (251), who rounded out the Top 5.

The high-marked ride of the event went to Kasey Hayes of Liberal, Kan., who recorded 91.50 points on Shepherd Hills Tested (Luthy/Duckwall/ D&H Cattle/Powder River/ Shepherd Hills Cutlery) in the championship round. In 71 previous career outs, the bull had only been ridden twice, both times by reigning PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney (for 92.50 and 90.50 points).

Long John (D&H Cattle Company/Tim Dougherty) received the Salem National Lease High Marked Bull award for his bull score of 46 points, which he earned during the championship round as he bucked off J.W. Harris.

The Built Ford Tough Series travels to Las Vegas next weekend for the Last Cowboy Standing at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The preliminary rounds of Last Cowboy Standing will air on CBS Sports Network on Friday, May 9, at 11 p.m. ET. CBS Network Television will carry the final rounds at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 11.
