RALEIGH, North Carolina – In one of the tightest points race in PBR (Professional Bull Riders) history and with only two events left in the regular season before the 2017 Built Ford Tough World Finals, Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) and Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil) shared the victory during Round 1 of the Frontier Communications Invitational presented by Cooper Tires on Saturday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, earning crucial points to help solidify their place in the PBR world standings.

Barbosa went first and rode True Story (Twisted 3 Cattle Co./Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for 86.50 points. Late in the event, Outlaw outlasted Jug Head (Ricky West Bucking Bulls) for an equal 86.50 points. With 10 round victories this season, Outlaw is second in the PBR while Barbosa has five and is tied with Mason Lowe (Exeter, Missouri).

Neither rider moved up in the world standings but instead earned valuable points to cut into Aparecido’s lead. Outlaw is sixth in the standings and is 1,053.34 points out of the lead while Barbosa is 14th.

J.W. Harris (Mullin, Texas) and Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada) each tied for third place with equal 86-point scores. Harris went the distance on Lab Rat (Cornwell Bucking Bulls/Circle G/Coleman) while Buttar covered Colt .45 (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls).

Four riders tied for fifth place with each earning 85.75 points. The first qualified ride of the quartet was Emilio Resende (Santa Helena de Goias, Brazil) on Slinger (Mike Miller/Torres Brothers). Next up was Cody Campbell (Summerville, Oregon) on Ottis (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) before World No. 1 and 2, Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) and Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) each covered their bulls, Aparecido on Red Rocket (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) and Davis on Slip Out (Mike Miller/Torres Brothers).

Round 1 will be available on demand on the PBR app and PBR.com/ondemand starting at 8 a.m. ET on Oct. 15.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will return to PNC Arena for Championship Sunday of the Frontier Communications Invitational where each rider will face one more bull in Round 2 before the Top 15 will move on to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round where a winner will be crowned.
