Outlaw Wins Round 1 of Ak-Chin Invitational

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Arkansas cowboy Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) continued his 2017 hot streak on the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS), as he took Round 1 of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Ak-Chin Invitational Saturday night at Gila River Arena.

Outlaw, who entered the event as the No. 5 ranked bull rider in the world, rode Captain Jack (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) for 88.5 points. For the round win, Outlaw netted 100 world points and $3,580. It also shifted him up to No. 4 in the world standings, passing Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil).

After returning to the BFTS a week prior in Albuquerque, New Mexico, four-time PRCA champion J.W. Harris (Mullin, Texas) covered Mortimer (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) for 87.25 points to finish second in Round 1. Harris earned 60 points toward the world standings along with a $2,750 paycheck.

Two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) and Mason Lowe (Exeter, Missouri) tied for third place after recording identical 86.75-point scores. Mauney reached 8 seconds aboard Shelley’s Gangster (A Livestock), while Lowe rode Grandpa Joe (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Lacey Scott). The pair took home 45 world points and $1,650 each for the finish.

Young gun Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) turned in an 86.5-point trip aboard Legacy (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / Heald Pro Bulls) to round out the Top 5 Saturday night. For his effort, Kolbaba gained 30 world points and pocketed $850.

The best of the PBR will return to Gila River Arena, Sunday afternoon for the conclusion of the Ak-Chin Invitational. Each rider will face one more bull in Round 2 before the Top 15 riders move on to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round where the winner will take home the title.

The Championship Sunday action begins at 4:30 p.m. ET on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app. CBS Sports Network will also broadcast Championship Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.
