Palermo Wins Wheeling BlueDEF Velocity Tour Event

PUEBLO, Colo. – Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Brazil) is looking to ride his way back to the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS). With a win at the BlueDEF Velocity Tour (BDVT) event in Wheeling, West Virginia, on March 20-21, Palermo is one step closer.

Winners of each 2015 BDVT will be guaranteed a minimum of one opportunity to compete at a BFTS regular-season event in an attempt to win enough points to rank among the Top 35 and earn a spot on the elite tour. Thanks to the win in Wheeling, Palermo will compete at the BFTS Stanley Performance in Action Invitational in Billings, Montana, on April 17-19.

Palermo did not get a ride in Round 1, but his 84-points in Round 2 helped set the pace as he was the only rider to cover his bull in the championship round with an 88.5-point score. He earned a paycheck of $7,400, but, more importantly, he walked away with 80 points toward the PBR world standings.

Michael Lane (North Tazewell, Virginia) finished in second place with an 86.5-point ride in Round 1. He earned 50 points toward the world standings. Thad Newell (Muskogee, Oklahoma) and Budd Williamson (Ayr, Australia) finished in third and fourth place, respectively, with Newell earning 30 world points and Williamson earning 20 world points.

Lane Nobles (China Spring, Texas) was the fifth-place finisher and earned 15 world points, while Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) and Marco Eguchi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tied for sixth place as each picked up five world points.

The BlueDEF Velocity Tour will continue this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska, at The CenturyLink Center on Saturday, March 28. Luis Blanco (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Gage Gay (Staley, North Carolina) and Tyler Harr (Hazen, Arkansas) highlight the riders competing.

In Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the Black River Coliseum, the Larry Hills Dodge Touring Pro Division (TPD) event took place on March 20-21. Mason Lowe (Exeter, Missouri) was the top rider as he won first through third place. Per TPD rules, a bull rider may enter an event as many times as he chooses and Lowe entered four times.

Lowe tied with himself for first and second places with 171.5 points each, earning 90 total world points for the two spots. He tied for third place with Jorge Valdiviezo (Chihuahua, Mexico) with 169 points.

Both riders earned 17.5 points towards the world standings for their third-place finishes.

John Mincey (West Plains, Missouri) was in fifth place, earning 10 world points and Dallee Mason (Caldwell, Idaho) finished in sixth place, earning five world points.

On March 27-28, the Touring Pro Division will be in Beggs, Oklahoma, at the Tulsa RV Ranch. Jay Miller (Liberty, South Carolina), Cody Tyler White (Talala, Oklahoma) and Brant Atwood (Wynnewood, Oklahoma) are just some of the riders that will be competing.
