PBR Nominated for the 2015 SportsTravel Awards

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Professional Bull Riders is proud to announce that its 2014 Built Ford Tough Monster Energy Bulls on the Beach event has been nominated as the Best New Sports Event for 2014 in SportsTravel magazine’s SportsTravel Awards. The SportsTravel Award honors excellence in sporting event production and management at the amateur, collegiate and professional levels.

Winners are determined by fan votes. Voting is going on now and will continue until Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. MT. Fans can visit http://vote.schneiderpublishing.com/ballot/ now to help the PBR once again receive this prestigious honor. The PBR previously won a SportsTravel Award in 2011 for the Best New Sports Event for the Last Cowboy Standing event in Las Vegas.

In a first-ever event of its kind, the Monster Energy Bulls on the Beach in Huntington Beach, California, took place on Oct. 18 when the world’s Top 15 bull riders and the best bucking bulls on the planet gathered for a head-to-head battle that took place at one of the world’s most famous beaches.

Nearly 5,000 people crowded around the temporary Built Ford Tough Series arena erected in the parking lot adjacent to the sand on the corner of Huntington Street and Pacific Coast Highway for the heart-pumping action that had people gathering at the arena hours before the event began in anticipation of the spectacle.

The bull riders were riding to earn as many points as possible as they vied for position in the PBR world standings. In addition to extra points, the event offered one lucky cowboy the opportunity to win $25,000 for one 8-second ride on Percolator (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls).

Matt Triplett claimed his first win ever at the PBR Built Ford Tough Series level by taking first place in the Bulls on the Beach 15/15 Bucking Battle with an 87-point ride on Oklahoma Bell (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls).

Triplett earned $7,500 and drew within striking distance of the PBR World Championship, just 2,000 points behind world leader Joao Ricardo Vieira.

All of the action from Huntington Beach was captured in a feature on CBS Television Network the following day.

The winners of the 2014 SportsTravel Awards will be presented in Las Vegas during SportsTravel magazine’s TEAMS ’14 conference & expo on Nov. 10-13.
