Professional Bull Riders Roar into 
Broadmoor World Arena for Toughest Sport on Dirt

PUEBLO, Colo. — The toughest men on dirt return to Colorado Springs, Colorado, this weekend, May 2-3, for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough Rumble in the Rockies brought to you by your local Ford Store and Sonic, part of the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS).

Last year, after a nine-year absence, southern Colorado PBR fans enjoyed three days of the best bull riding athletes in the world – bulls and bull riders – facing off in the most thrilling 8 seconds in sports. High-flying rides and gut-wrenching wrecks abounded, as the Top 35 men in the sport fought for valuable PBR world standings points and their share of the $140,000 total event purse.

For two days, the Top 35 men in the world will be back for more bold battles and bruises and with tons of bravado to take on their 2,000-pound opponents.

Former PBR World Champions Mike Lee (2004), Guilherme Marchi (2008), and J.B Mauney (2013) will lead the line-up and ride alongsideJ.W. Harris, the 2014 PBR Rookie of the Year, Kaique Pacheco, the 2015 PBR Rookie of the Year front runner, world No. 1 Joao Ricardo Vieira, No. 2 Matt Triplett and fan favorites Douglas Duncan, Reese Cates, Brady Sims and Ben Jones.

Saturday night’s Round 1 will be an ABBI Classic competition, featuring the up-and-coming bulls of the sport. Mauney, fresh from a win in Des Moines, Iowa, last weekend, will face Midnight Bender (John McDonald Bucking Bulls) in Round 1.

Challenging Vieira, will be Gangster Bucks (3CM Cattle Co.), and waiting for Triplett will be Bert owned by Larry & Vicki Hoffsinger/The Jaynes Gang.

North Dakota’s Nathan Schaper, No. 3 in the PBR world standings, will face Cowbanger (Barrett Bucking Bulls/Prewitt) in Round 1.

Returning to the tour this week is Billy Robinson who has been out for 12 weeks rehabbing a sprained right knee which he sustained in Sacramento, California, earlier this year. Robinson will ride Handsome Jeff (Ramblin Verl Ranch) on Saturday.

With his PBR BlueDEF Velocity Tour win in Wichita, Kansas, last weekend, Cody Tyler White has earned the opportunity to compete on the BFTS this weekend in Colorado Springs in hopes of winning enough points to rank in the Top 35. He will face Classic bull SB 581 Kit (Bonsall Bucking Bulls) in the first round.

In addition to the Top 35 bull riders battling it out in Round 1, Saturday night also will include a 15/15 Bucking Battle. This special round of action pits the Top 15 bull riders in the world against the Top 15 bulls in the competition for bonus points and a total prize purse of $21,000. Fans will get to see the best riders, to include Triplett, Mauney, Schaper, Cates, Pacheco, Marchi, Shane Proctor and Harris facing off with bulls the likes of Stone Sober, Bruiser and Long John.

All of the excitement of the 15/15 Bucking Battle will air on CBS Television Network on Sunday,
May 3, at 3 p.m. ET. Round 2 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round of the Rumble in the Rockies will air live on CBS Sports Network at 4 p.m. later that same day.

To start the weekend, the Gazette PBR Fan Zone will open Friday, May 1, at 5 p.m. in the Broadmoor World Arena parking lot. Fans can interact with all of the sponsor booths, ride the mechanical bull, sample products from Sonic and Monster Energy, participate in the Support the Sport 5K, and enjoy live music during the Y96.9’s Kick off Concert presented by Dr. Pepper. Colorado’s own Kory Brunson Band will take the Cooper Tires stage at 6 p.m., and at 8:30 p.m. up-and-coming country music singer and songwriter Chase Rice will entertain fans with his adrenaline-filled show of in-your-face, no-holds-barred country vibes.

Saturday morning, May 2, The Gazette’s PBR Fan Zone opens at 11 a.m. for fans to enjoy all activities, including a PBR bull rider meet and greet with the Top 15 bull riders in the world: Vieira, Triplett, Schaper, de Oliveira, Marchi, Pacheco, Mauney, Cates, Harris, Jones, Fabiano Vieira, Mike Lee, Shane Proctor, and Cody Nance, and Cooper Davis. These men will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with the public.

Mid-afternoon, PBR’s exclusive entertainer Flint Rasmussen will take the stage with his “Outside the Barrel” comedy, followed by live music from Cowboy Dave Band and national UMG recording artist A Thousand Horses.

Fans will be able to spend Sunday morning in the Gazette’s Fan Zone with Riding High Ministries for PBR Church at 10 a.m. and more live music throughout the day.
