SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – After weathering a slump on the heels of a historic, four-event win streak this summer, Brock Radford returned to his championship contending form Friday night by winning Round 1 of the 2017 PBR Canada Finals.

The final rider out at the SaskTel Centre, Radford (De Winton, Alberta) rode Minion Stuart for 87.5 points.

The round win earned the 22-year-old 250 Canadian points and helped him build his position atop the national standings.

Prior to his ride tonight, Radford had gone 2-for-9 since winning his record fourth consecutive PBR Canada Touring Pro Division event in Coronation, Alberta, on Aug. 16.

Radford is in pursuit of his first Canadian title and leads No. 2 Zane Lambert (Westbourne, Manitoba) by 504.16 points in the PBR Canada standings heading into the final night of competition.

Rookie Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) finished second in the two-day event’s first round after riding Grey Eyes for 86.5 points.

The 18-year-old now sits atop the PBR Canada Rookie of the Year race after earning 150 Canadian points and surpassing Dayton Johnston (Milk River, Alberta).

Robbins leads Johnston by 85 points.

Lambert – the defending PBR Canada Finals event winner – finished third on the night after scoring 86 points aboard Finning Lil Shorty, earning 125 Canadian points.

After significantly closing the points disparity between him and Radford with four Top-5 finishes and one win at the past four events, Lambert heads into the final day of the season 504.16 points off from becoming the second rider in PBR history to earn multiple Canadian national titles.

Edgar Durazo and 2007 PBR Canada Champion Tyler Pankewitz tied for fourth after matching 85.5-point rides in Round 1.

Durazo’s qualified ride came aboard Heaven’s Basement as the first successful out of the night, while Pankewitz rode Darkness.

Each rider earned 87.5 Canadian points for the finish.

Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) climbed one spot in the rankings to No.4 after finishing tied for seventh in the round.

The 21-year-old rode Night Vision for 84.5 points to earn 22.5 Canadian points. He now trails Radford by 979.16 points.

The 2017 PBR Canada Finals conclude Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT at the SaskTel Centre where the 2017 PBR Canada Champion will be crowned. The champion will earn a trip to the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30 where they will then have the opportunity to qualify for the Built Ford Tough World Finals on Nov. 1-5.
