Reigning Champion Mauney Takes Lead in PBR World Standings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – J.B. Mauney won his second PBR (Professional Bull Riders) 15/15 Bucking Battle of the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) season at the Built Ford Tough Kansas City Clash presented by Foley Equipment and brought to you locally by Sonic at Sprint Center on Saturday.

The two-time and reigning PBR World Champion put up an 89-point ride aboard Wicked (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen) in this special round to capture 150 points toward the PBR world standings. With his 86-point ride in Round 1 on Big Country (Halpain Bucking Bulls), Mauney became the No. 1 man in the world surpassing Paulo Lima for the top in the world standings.

Mike Lee, the 2004 PBR World Champion, took second place in the 15/15 Bucking Battle with an 88.25-point ride aboard Little Red Jacket (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen). Lee earned 90 world standings points for his finish.

With his first qualified ride in 11 attempts, Valdiron de Oliveira earned 75 points after covering American Hustle (D&H Cattle Co./Leflore) for 86.50 points to take third place, and former No. 1 Lima tallied the only other qualified ride in the 15/15 Bucking Battle with 86 points on Brutus (Bob & Jeri Adams/D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) to earn 60 points.

The 15/15 Bucking Battle, which features the Top 15 PBR bull riders facing off with the top PBR bulls, will air on CBS Television Network at noon ET on Sunday.

During Round 1 of the Kansas City Clash earlier in the evening, Kaique Pacheco took the lead late in round with an 87.25-point ride aboard Show Kitty (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) to take the round win. Justin Paton had held the lead throughout most of the evening after scoring 86 points on Roll of the Dice (Halpain Bucking Bulls), but ended the round in second place — his highest BFTS finish of the season.

Pacheco earned 100 world standings points, while Paton finished with 60 world standings points. Watch Pacheco’s Round 1 winning ride here.

Eduardo Aparecido took third place to earn 50 world standings points after covering Glory Days (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.) for 85.50 points. Fourth place went to Mauney who earned 40 points, while Nathan Schaper rode Clevenger (Bar 3D Bucking Bulls/3CM Bucking Bulls) to finish in fifth place, earning 30 world standings points.

Round 1 of the Built Ford Tough Kansas City Clash presented by Foley Equipment and brought to you locally by Sonic was also an American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) Classic competition. Some of the country’s best 3- and 4-year-old bulls were also competing in this round. More than $35,000 was paid out to the top animal athletes.

Winning more than $10,000 and a gold buckle for owners OK Coralis/Gordon/D&H was Criminal Mind. The night’s best bovine in the ABBI Classic competition earned a score of 88.75 points, besting his closest competitor, Acting Crazy (Rockin R Bucking Bulls), by a point and half. In third place with 86.75 points was Wicked Stick from Chad Berger.Handsome Jeff also scored 86.75 points to earn a check for owners Rodriquez/Long, and Show Kitty from D&H/Buck rounded out the Top 5 with 86.5 points.

ABBI Classic bulls compete all season long to qualify for the ABBI World Championships which take place in conjunction with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals. In November, the ABBI World Champion Bucking Bull will take home $200,000.

Round 2 of the Built Ford Tough Kansas City Clash presented by Foley Equipment will begin at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday followed by the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.

CBS Sports Network, the home of the PBR, will broadcast Round 2 and the championship round on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Fans can also watch all of the action live via the PBR LIVE app, available for download now on Google Play and iTunes, or online at www.pbr.com/live.

The Kansas City Clash is the seventh event on the 2016 PBR BFTS schedule. The season will consist of 26 stops, traveling to such cities as Chicago, New York, Anaheim, California, and Dallas. It will culminate in the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Nov. 2-6 when the 2016 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most world standings points during the season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and $1 million bonus.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
