RFD-TV’s The American Breakaway Roping to be Co-Approved by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association

(NASHVILLE, TENN. – SEPT. 24, 2018) – RFD-TV’s THE AMERICAN will become a two-day event in 2019 making it the richest weekend in western sports at AT&T Stadium. Announced earlier this year, THE AMERICAN will feature women’s breakaway roping for the first time and today we are excited to announce that the event will be co-approved by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). The WPRA is the oldest women’s sports organization in the country and is recognized as the leader in sanctioning women’s professional rodeo.

“As breakaway roping continues to gain attention and traction in the rodeo industry, the Women’s Professionals Rodeo Association is thrilled to showcase the best our sport has to offer and provide an opportunity for our members to compete for a share of the $85,000 breakaway purse at THE AMERICAN” said WPRA President Doreen Wintermute. “This relationship is important because any money that our members win at WPRA co-approved breakaway qualifiers, THE AMERICAN semi-finals and finals will count toward the 2019 WPRA Breakaway Roping World Standings.”

This new opportunity will bring added excitement to the world title race in 2019. The WPRA World Finals in Waco, Texas, Oct. 18-21 will count as a breakaway roping qualifier. All participants must me a WPRA member. For more information visit www.wpra.com.

The addition of breakaway roping provides another avenue to impact the growth of Western Sports and will provide another thousand qualifiers the opportunity to compete at AT&T Stadium.

Since its debut in 2014, THE AMERICAN has paid out to rodeo contestants more than $15,000,000 at the qualifiers, Semi-Finals and Finals. Each year the top rodeo athletes in the world in each of the seven rodeo events are invited to compete at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. With this unique “open” format, anyone can qualify for this prestigious event through a series of qualifiers which are currently underway around the U.S. Event dates and results and can be found at AmericanRodeo.com.
