Richardson Retains and Jesus Regains

The 1st annual Lexi Munk Bull Riding was quite a show for the small town of Hoxie, Kansas this past weekend. Thirty CBR bull riders, eight from the Sunflower State, joined 15 CBR bull teams Saturday night at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. There wasn’t an empty seat in the stands, and the standing room only was crowded to say the least.

In the first section of competition Australian Ben Jones took an early lead with 81 points on G-Whiz of 4G Ranch/ McKenzie/ Novak followed by Cody Jesus of Sawmill, AZ on Jerilyn Harmon’s Boomer for 84 points.

Garrion Hull of Wichita drew Second Hand Crook of TCB Ranch, taking the lead with 86.5. CBR newbie Daniel Tinsmen finished off the qualifying rides in the Long Go with an 80 point ride on Comanche Moon of Championship Pro Rodeo/CPX Cattle Co.

Due to a previous injury, Ben Jones earned his spot to the Short Round, but had to draw out. Twelve riders were advanced to the final round based on time. Current CBR Horizon leader Braden Richardson was the first cowboy to hear the buzzer as he conquered Trump Train of Barrett/Willis/CPR with 84.5 points, remaining at the top of the CBR Horizon Series leaderboard. Strong City, Oklahoma rider Trey Kimzey drew Rockin C & Harris’ Fat Boy, hopping off with a score of 85.5.

Ultimately, Cody Jesus, the only rider of the night to cover both bulls, claimed the championship with 87 points on a bull named Mr. Jones of 4G Ranch/ McKenzie / Novak.

Returning after an injury, this is the first event Jesus has attended, and it proved a pivotal moment for the CBR World Standings as he regained the number one spot from Fort Scott, Kansas native Trey Holston.

Last night’s CBR Horizon competition was part of the CBR Bull Team Challenge (BTC). With a prize purse of $56,250, stock contractors compete with three bulls that are featured during two rounds of competition. The bulls receive points for their performance and additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is combined to the bull’s score. At the end of competition, the total bull team scores determine the BTC Champion. Jerilyn Harmon’s Elite Bulls received first place in the bull team competition with a check of $23,000.00.
