RodeoHouston® Barrow Champion Selection

TEARS AND APPLAUSE FILLED THE NRG CENTER EAST ARENA AS WINNERS WERE ANNOUNCED IN THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO™ JUNIOR MARKET BARROW CHAMPION SELECTION

Grand Champion and Reserve Champion were announced March 14 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Barrow Champion Selection in the NRG Center East Arena.

JUNIOR MARKET BARROW GRAND CHAMPION

Karley Willenborg, 14, from McLennan County FFA, took home the Grand Champion trophy at the Junior Market Barrow Selection.
Karley described her feeling as speechless after learning she won, but said this was her first Grand Champion win at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Her barrow, “Shannon Barbie,” is named after her breeder and Karley said the name eventually stuck.

Her father also showed barrows and Karley said this was the reason she decided to show barrows.

“He did not do well as a child, so I am doing well for him,” Karley said.

JUNIOR MARKET BARROW RESERVE CHAMPION

Sydney Crowder, 15, from Bullard FFA, earned her first win at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo after being crowned the Junior Market Barrow Reserve Champion.

Sydney, along with her barrow “Bad Hombre,” said she was not expecting to win, but felt great and amazing after they announced her as the Reserve Champion.

Exhibitors will sell their barrows at the Junior Market Barrow Auction, Friday, March 15, at noon. The auction is open to the public and will be held in the NRG Arena Sales Pavilion.
