Schaper Goes 4-for-4 to Win in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. – Nathan Schaper went 4-for-4 on the weekend to win the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) Stanley Performance in Action Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires, at Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings, Montana, on Sunday. It was the second BFTS event win of his career and took place in front of the North Dakotan’s family and friends.

With an 87.5-point effort atop King Buck (BMC Bucking Bulls/Jeff Robinson) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round Schaper captured the win with 460 world standings points for his second-place finish in the championship round and first-place finish in the event aggregate. He moves from No. 10 to No. 7 in the PBR world standings.

“Oklahoma City was my first (win).” Schaper said. “I’d been wanting to win one for so long, so that feeling was great. This feeling is the exact same. It’s so hard to come by an event win anyways, say how many we ever come across – I bet everyone feels the same.”

The PBR celebrated 20 years in Billings this past weekend, welcoming over 20,000 fans to Rimrock Auto Arena during the three-day event.

Gage Gay began the weekend as the No. 36 bull rider in the world standings and was competing in Billings as an alternate. Gay now finds himself ranked in the Top 35 once again after landing a second-place finish this weekend, going 3-for-4 with 300 points towards the world standings. He is now ranked No. 26.

As the only other rider to make the 8-second whistle on all four of his bulls, Kaique Pacheco, the leader in the 2015 PBR Rookie of the Year race, finished in third place with 270 world standings points toward his 2015 PBR season total.

2010 PBR World Champion Renato Nunes and Canadian Aaron Roy rounded out the Top 5 on the event, earning 215 world standings points and 155 world standing points, respectively. Roy launched himself into No. 35 in the world standings to remain on the Built Ford Tough Series tour after using his last of five of his injury exemptions this weekend.

With a bull score of 46.75 out of 50 points, Sweet Pro’s Long John was named the Salem NationaLease High-marked Bull in Billings as he bucked off Kasey Hayes in 6.49 seconds during the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

Billings was the 15th of 27 stops on the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The 19-state tour will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 21-25 when the 2015 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most PBR world standings points during the 2015 season, will be crowned and receive the coveted $10,000 World Championship belt buckle and $1 million bonus.

The BFTS will head to Des Moines, Iowa, next week Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26. The Des Moines Invitational presented by Cooper Tires will take place at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Wells Fargo Arena will also be the site of the sixth 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season which will air on CBS Television Network on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. ET.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network – the home of the PBR – and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
