Red Bluff Round-Up hosts rodeo camp

A young cowboy tries out a bareback rigging at the 2016 Red Bluff Round-Up rodeo camp. This year’s camp will be held March 24

Red Bluff, Calif. (March 19, 2018) – If a young buckaroo wants to learn how to stay on the back of a bucking horse or bull for eight seconds, or wrestle a steer, where does he go?

He (or she) goes to the rodeo camp in Red Bluff, Calif., on March 24.

That’s where he will get a taste of a variety of topics, all dealing with bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, and bull riding.

The annual rodeo camp, hosted by the Red Bluff Round-Up and the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association will be held March 24 from 9 am to 2 pm in Red Bluff at the Growney Bros. Ranch. No equipment is required and no live animals are used. Registration is required.

Participants can be of any skill level, ages eight and up. The curriculum includes an introduction to the events: safety and fundamentals, injury prevention, chute procedures, equipment overview, and an introduction to the PRCA.

Several PRCA cowboys will be on hand to instruct and offer tips. Bareback rider R.C Landingham, saddle bronc rider Jesse James Kirby, steer wrestler James Banister and bull rider Justin Andrade will help students. All four men have excelled at rodeo; Landingham has qualified for two Wrangler National Finals Rodeos and is a native of Red Bluff.

The camp is hosted by the Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte, and Round-Up general manager James Miller says it is worthwhile. “It’s a way to foster prospective contestants, and help them with fundamentals. And it’s a chance for them to talk to WNFR cowboys who are professionals.”

The camp is free of charge. Participants are asked to register online at www.prorodeo.com/prorodeo/rodeo/youth-rodeo. Parents are free to visit the camp as well.

The Red Bluff Round-Up will be held April 20-22. Performances begin at 7 pm on April 20, at 2:30 on April 21 and at 1:30 on April 22. Tickets range in price from $14 to $30 and can be purchased online at www.RedBluffRoundup.com, at the Round-Up office (530.527.1000) and at the gate. For more information, visit the website.
