SAN ANTONIO – Tie-down roper Cory Solomon from Prairie View, Texas, won more money than any of the other contestants in Bracket 4 at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo on Saturday.

In fact, he had the fastest time at the matinee performance at 7.7. He roped again Saturday night and beat his previous time by four-tenths of a second. The crowd was on the edge of their seats Saturday night when they saw a 7.3 flash on the scoreboard. Solomon won $2,378 for each of those runs and with his second place finish on Friday night in the first round, he earned a total of $6,540 to advance to the Semifinals.

Another contestant that got to make too victory laps around the AT&T Center on Saturday was bull rider Elliot Jacoby from Fredericksburg, Texas. Jacoby had an awesome ride on Frontier Rodeo’s bull named Footloose to score 91 points in the matinee. Then he rode another bull from the Winnie, Texas, based stock contractor named Express Lane to win the third round Saturday night with an 83.5. Jacoby will advance to the Semifinals in second place with $4,756 behind rookie Clayton Sellars from Fruitland Park, Florida, who has won $5,351.

Saturday night’s steer wrestling saw one horse take cowboys to the top three places in the third round. There was a tie between Tanner Brunner, from Ramona, Kansas and Chance Howard from Cedarville, Arkansas, at 3.9 seconds. Cole Edge, from Durant, Oklahoma placed third with a 4.2. All were riding a horse owned by Sean Mulligan. The mare, Lion’s Famous Kitty is known by the steer wrestlers as Miss Kitty.

Edge and Howard both earned enough money to advance to the Semifinals. Brunner was one spot out of the top five. Edge was at the top of the standings for the steer wrestlers at %5,351. He qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2014, and is hoping to get back there again this year. A big win here would help him accomplish that goal so he and Miss Kitty would be heading to Las Vegas next December.

Sunday will see two more performances of the $1.7 million San Antonio Rodeo. It will be the first and second round of Bracket 5, which will be completed on Monday. The most successful contestants from the five brackets will then start competing in the Semifinals on Tuesday.
