Team Coors takes Home WCC Title
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Team Coors had a significant lead in the Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots season standings heading into Saturday’s tour finale.
Donna Keffeler, national events coordinator director of marketing for Coors and the manager of Team Coors, took her squad to lunch Saturday. It was mostly to thank the team for their efforts throughout the season, but also for a little extra team bonding.
Then Saturday night, behind Cade Swor’s third-place finish in tie-down roping, Team Coors locked down that team title at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Swor took home $2,204 after taking third in 7.9 seconds.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” said Swor, who entered the final week of the 2017 season in 15th place in the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings. “I’ve been on the Coors team for three years now. It’s pretty cool to come to these and then have a little incentive at the end to have your team do well. You’ll be pulling for every event and pay a little more attention than normal.”
On Friday, every member of Team Coors won a check, except Swor. On Saturday, Swor was the only member of Coors to cash a check.
“I’m just really excited about the year and being a part of the Coors team and getting to go back to the National Finals for the seventh time,” Swor said.
Coors won the WCC team title with $82,766, while Team RAM took second and Resistol was third. Coors entered the night leading by nearly $20,000 over Resistol and RAM. That was something Keffeler addressed with her team early in the day.
“We talked about our success last night and what we needed to do to keep that lead,” Keffeler said. “But most of all it was my way of saying thank you for being on my team and supporting us year-round.”
She was ecstatic to take home the trophy, and a buckle for herself and each of her team members.
“It has been such an amazing year,” Keffeler said. “I cannot be prouder of our team. They have bonded together and ridden for our brand and represented us all year, and not just at the Champions Challenges.”
Other winners at the $92,800 rodeo were bareback rider Clayton Biglow of Team B&W Trailer Hitches (89 points on Dakota Rodeo’s 100 Proof), steer wrestler Olin Hannum of Team Experience Kissimmee (4.1 seconds), team ropers Coleman Proctor and Billie Jack Saebens of Team RAM (4.9 seconds), saddle bronc rider Brody Cress of Team Las Vegas Events (88 points on Dakota Rodeo’s Bartender), tie-down roper Shane Hanchey of Team B&W Trailer Hitches (7.2 seconds), barrel racer Brittany Pozzi-Tonozzi of Team Polaris RANGER (13.23 seconds) and bull rider Trey Benton III of Team Las Vegas Events (88 points on Rafter H Rodeo Livestock’s Somethings Gotta Give).
