SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It was a crowded leaderboard in the team roping on Friday night at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo.

Current PRCA world champions Levi Simpson of Ponoka, Alberta, and Jeremy Buhler of Arrowwood, Alberta, took the lead with a 4.1-second run. The next team of Marcus Theriot of Poplarville, Miss., and Clint Summers, of Lake City, Fla., turned in an identical time to advance to Monday night’s Gold Medal Round with a chance at $50,000. Both teams pocketed $2,800 each.

The Komatsu Equipment Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo presented by Zions Bank, July 19-22 and 24, is taking place at the all-new, $17.5 million, state-of-the-art Days of ’47 Arena at the Utah State Fair Park. The venue – an outdoor arena located in the heart of Salt Lake City – features more than 10,000 stadium-style seats.

Steven Peebles got the night off to a hot start in the bareback riding, posting an 86.5-point ride on Flying U Rodeo’s Vivant’s Cat Caller. Wyatt Denny of Minden, Nev., and Clayton Biglow of Clements, Calif., tied for second with scores of 82 points on Flying Five Rodeo’s Black Mary and Flying U Rodeo’s Mr. Clark, respectively. Denny will advance based on the tie-breaker, which is the back judge’s score.

Ryan Jarrett wasted no time in punching his ticket to the Gold Medal Round on Monday night. Jarrett, of Comanche, Okla., stopped the clock in 7.2 seconds. His closest competitor was Ryle Smith of Oakdale, Calif., who finished with an 8.6 to advance.

Dakota Eldridge and Jesse Brown advanced in the steer wrestling for the finals. Eldridge of Elko, Nev., turned in a time of 3.7 seconds, while Brown of Baker City, Ore., was 3.9.

Oklahoma’s Hardy Braden rode Big Bend Rodeo’s Broken Camp for the high score of the night in the saddle bronc riding with 81.5 points. Heith DeMoss and Brody Cress tied for second with 81-point rides. DeMoss rode Diamond G Rodeo’s Zion’s 18 Karat Kowboy, while Cress was aboard Diamond G Rodeo’s Miss Blue Eyes. DeMoss, of Heflin, La., will advance based on the back judge’s score, which is used for the tie-breaker at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo.

Lisa Lockhart of Oelrichs, S.D., is looking for a big win in Salt Lake City to move into the top 15 in the WPRA World Standings. As of July 17, she was ranked 17th with $46,537, just $1,871 outside the coveted number 15 spot. She added $3,200 for the winning time on Friday night with a time of 17.20 seconds, but is eyeing the big prize on Monday of $50,000. Kellie Collier of Hereford, Texas, took second with a 17.47 to advance for a shot at a gold medal.
