GLENDALE, Ariz.2012 PRCA champion Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas) finally broke through on the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) as he earned his first-career victory at the Ak-Chin Invitational Sunday afternoon at Gila River Arena.

Teel was one of three riders to go a perfect 3-for-3 in front of a PBR Glendale record crowd.

He started Championship Sunday in with an 88-point ride on Crazy Horse (Rocking I Rodeo Co.) in Round 2 before going on to ride More Big Bucks (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve) for 87.25 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to pull ahead of pack and secure the victory.

Teel’s win netted him 515 total world points along with $33,980. He also moved to No. 19 in the world standings after beginning the weekend at No. 38.

Mason Lowe (Exeter, Missouri) finished second in Arizona after his own 3-for-3 performance. Lowe rode Johnny B (JD Nix Co.) for 79 points in Round 2 before turning in a 90.5-point trip aboard Tractor Tippin (Rockin I Rodeo / Walker Roy West) to tie for the win in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. For the effort, Lowe took home 365 total world points and an $18,700 paycheck.

Lowe leaves Arizona the No. 7 ranked bull rider in the world.

Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) came in third place after going 2-for-3. Though Outlaw was bucked off by Red Moon (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls) in 5.16 seconds in Round 2, he rebounded with an 89.25-point ride on Sully (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Cay Struve) in the championship round. Outlaw pocketed 255 world points and $14,380 while taking over the No. 3 spot in the world standings.

Young gun Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) moved to No. 5 in the world standings after going 3-for-3 and securing a fourth place finish. Kolbaba covered Sudden Impact (Dakota Rodeo – Chad Berger / Heald Pro Bulls) for 82 points in Round 2 before closing out his weekend with a gritty 82.5-point trip on Billy Bat Skat (Rocking I Rodeo Co.) in the championship round.

Kolbaba earned 220 points toward the world standings and a $6,700 check.

2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) rounded out the Top 5 in Glendale. Davis tied for the win in the championship round when he rode Spotted Demon (Julio Moreno / Dallas Schott) for 90.5 points. It was the first time since 2014 that Spotted Demon had been ridden at the BFTS level. For the finish, Davis picked up 145 points toward the world standings and $8,050.

2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Itupeva, Brazil), the cover athlete of the current issue of Men’s Fitness, recorded qualified ride No. 597 when he covered GAH’s Lil Man (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) in Round 2 for 80.75 points. Marchi leaves Arizona three rides away from becoming the first rider in PBR history to reach the 600-ride milestone on the PBR’s elite tour.

Jared Allen’s Air Time was named the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event after tossing J.W. Harris (Mullin, Texas) in 2.13 seconds in the championship round to the tune of 45.25-point bull score.
