Timed Events See Lead Changes at Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 29, 2016) — Two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Friday saw leads change in all of the timed events.
Friday afternoon, the reigning world champion heeler, Kollin VonAhn from Blanchard, Okla., and header Colby Lovell from Madisonville, Texas, stop the clock in 4.5 seconds. That is tied for first place in the first round with Caleb Smidt from Bellville, and B.J. Dugger from Three Rivers, Texas. Smidt, earned his first gold buckle last year in the tie-down roping. The talented all-around cowboy will be competing in his signature event here next Monday.
Lovell and VonAhn roped their second steer on Friday night, but a five-second penalty for catching one hind leg will keep them from competing for a championship here this year.
For the past four years, Fort Worth’s steer wrestling champion has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). Sterling Lambert, from Fallon, Nev., is hoping to continue that trend. He moved into the lead in the second round with a 4.0-second run at Friday’s night performance. He also is fourth in the overall standings. If that holds, he will have an opportunity to compete for a championship here.
Lambert, a two-time RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo qualifier has been a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for eight years. He has yet to make the trip to Las Vegas to compete at the NFR, but a check here could certainly help him accomplish that goal.

Barrel racers are waiting anxiously to see who will advance to the progressive round. One woman that competed here on Friday afternoon moved everyone down the list. At the top of the board now is Michele McLeod from Whitesboro, Texas, who stopped the clock in 16.58 seconds.

The three-time NFR qualifier will have to wait through the weekend and Monday and Tuesday’s rodeos to see where she places in the round. But, with the fastest run at this year’s rodeo so far, she is likely to get a check and will be among the top 70 that qualify for the progressive round.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo continues Saturday with performances at 10 a.m., 2 and 7:30 p.m. in Fort Worth’s historic Will Rogers Coliseum.
