For the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 15, 2015) — Three years ago, Cody Teel started a bull riding trend at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo by winning the Xtreme Bulls competition and following that up with a championship at the rodeo.

The next two years Josh Koschel and Sage Kimzey did the same thing. Teel, from Kountze, Texas went on to win the 2012 world championship at his first of three Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications. He made a big step towards advancing to the semifinals in the AT&T Center with an 85-point ride on Sunday afternoon.

Teel’s success came aboard Powder River Rodeo’s bull named Savage and it earned him $2,281. He was one of only two bull riders to get a score, the other being Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings leader Parker Breding from Edgar, Mont. Both of these men have their sights set on a championship at this year’s rodeo which offers over $1.65 million in cash and prizes.

Breding is the only rider in this bracket to be successful on two bulls. He won the first round and with his second place check from Sunday, he leads the money standings with $3,992 and will be making plans to compete in the semifinals.

Also rising to the top for a second consecutive round win were barrel racer Sarah Rose McDonald and saddle bronc rider Tyler Corrington. Corrington, from Hastings, Minn., scored 76 points on Calgary Stampede’s Jollywell Unsocial for the win. McDonald and her roan mare “Bling” nearly tied for the arena record with a 13.70 second run. Sydni Blanchard set the record of 13.68 in 2013.

Both McDonald and Corrington have money earnings of $4,562 and have one more opportunity to add to that. All of the contestants in bracket 2 will make their third appearance here on Monday night at 7 p.m. where the semifinals qualifiers will be determined.

The following are results from the first performance of the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo which features over $1.65 million in cash and prizes.
