Tuf Cooper Ropes Lead at World’s Original Indoor Rodeo®

by Johna Cravens
for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas — Three-time world champion Tuf Cooper roped the lead Tuesday at The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo®.

Cooper, who lives in Weatherford, Texas, clocked a workmanlike 10.2-second run, which was only the fourth-fastest tie-down roping time of the night. Cooper had roped his first calf in 8.3 seconds which earned him more than $5,500 for second place in the first round. That gave him the overall lead with a total time of 18.5. While it is still early in the second round, Cooper’s consistency should keep him among the top 10 who return on Feb. 4 for the championship finals at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

The Tuesday night crowd saw four of the top six runs of the second round thus far. While no one could beat Ben Robinson’s 8.3 from Monday, Texan Quay Howard clocked an 8.9 to move into second. Former world champion Shane Hanchey roped his calf in 9.6 and another Texan, Reese Riemer, was 10.1.

National Finals Rodeo qualifier Michelle McLeod moved into first place in women’s barrel racing with a 16.75-second run. The Whitesboro, Texas, cowgirl and her horse were decked out in hot pink as part of Tuesday’s “Stock Show Goes Pink” day for breast cancer awareness.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® continues Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Fort Worth’s historic Will Rogers Coliseum.
