BARRETOS, BRAZIL – After scoring 90 points on Black Star in the championship round on Sunday night, Tiago Vitor won the 2014 Monster Energy PBR Brazil Finals and the 2014 Brazil championship.
“I believe that God has blessed me,” Vitor said. “I rode good bulls and won the two titles.”
Vitor was giving an interview when he received word that he had also won the overall Brazil championship and a trip to the 2014 Built Ford Tough World Finals.
He then threw his hat on the ground and gave out a loud cry. He raised his hands toward the sky and said a brief prayer.
“I do not know how to speak English, but my wife knows, so I’m relaxed,” Vitor said about traveling to Las Vegas for the World Finals.
Vitor finished 5-for-5 with 440.5 points. Silvano Alves (437.75), Otavio Marino (433.25), Eduardo Aparecido (423.25) and Fernando Henrique Novais (349.88) rounded out the Top 5.
Alves finished the season second overall in the Brazil standings.
The two-time World Champion left Texas for Brazil on Wednesday night. He traveled nine hours beside his wife, Evelin, to São Paulo. They eventually arrived in São José do Rio Preto on Thursday at 5 p.m before traveling two hours by car to Barretos.
Despite arriving at the rodeo an hour before the event started, Alves rode Cuiaba for 87.25 points. Alves received two re-rides in the championship round after Mandraque first was restless in the bucking chute, rearing up on Alves’ leg, and then later falling on Alves leg on his second jump out of the chutes.
After a moment of silence in the arena, Alves rose and picked up his rope to ride again. He then rode Malibu for a championship-round winning 91 points and his fifth ride of the event.
Bipolar won his second PBR Brazil Bull of the Year title after claiming his first in 2012.
