Wallace de Oliveira Wins PBR Chicago Invitational

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Brazilian rider Wallace de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) rode Cracker Jack (Rocking I Rodeo Co.) for 88.25 points during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) Chicago Invitational on Sunday evening.

The 36-year-old tallied his first BFTS win when he totaled 550 points – 400 of which he earned by going 3-for-3 to win the event average. Oliveira rode Ram It (K-C Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 for 86.75 points, and Bluegrass (K-C Bucking Bulls/Spark-lin Acres) in Round 2 for 83.5 points, giving him a three-ride total of 258.5.

Oliveira leaves Chicago as the No. 1 bull rider in the PBR world standings and walks away with $36,700 in earnings.

Fellow countrymen Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) and Valdiron de Oliveira (Palestina, Brazil) notched second- and third-place finishes, respectively. Vieira covered Americana (Dakota Rodeo/Berger-Struve) for 86.5 points in the championship round and Oliveira rode Who Dey (K-C/Josey McElroy Bucking Bulls/Spark-lin Acres) for 87.25 points. Vieira earned 322.5 world standings points and Oliveira notched 242.5.

Kasey Hayes (Liberal, Kansas) earned a fourth-place finish with a total of 155 points, while Ryan Dirteater (Hulbert, Oklahoma) took fifth with 135.5 points. Hayes went 2-for-2 with rides of 87.25 points on Throwin Salt (Rocking I Rodeo Company) and 87.75 on Apollo Stripes (Dakota Rodeo/Berger-Struve). Dirteater finished 3-for-3 with rides of 83.71 on VooDoo Too (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls), 81.75 on Outlaw Shakedown(K-C Bucking Bulls) and 87.5 points on Redbone (Dakota Rodeo/Berger-Struve).

Stinger (Cory Check) and Smooth Sailing (Dakota rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen) each had a bull score of 44 out of 50 points to tie for the Salem Nationalease High-marked Bull award in Chicago.

The Chicago Invitational was the opening event of the 2016 PBR Built Ford Tough Series. The season will consist of 26 stops, traveling to such cities as New York, Anaheim, California, and Dallas. It will climax with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Nov. 2-6 at the new Las Vegas Arena when the 2016 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most world standings points during the season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and $1 million bonus.

Next weekend the PBR heads to its first major of the season in Madison Square Garden and New York City for the Monster Energy Buck Off at the Garden on Jan. 15-17. Bull riding begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, 6:50 p.m. on Saturday and 1:50 p.m. on Sunday.

The 15/15 Bucking Battle, a special round of competition, on Friday will be televised on CBS Sports on Saturday at noon ET. Round 2 will be televised on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. ET, while Round 3 and the Championship Round will air at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
