Weatherford Ready for Rodeo Week
WEATHERFORD, Texas – The Pete Carr Pro Rodeo Big Truckin’ Series kicks off this week at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days and PRCA Rodeo, set for 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 6-Saturday, June 10, at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Arena.
The series features 13 events, including Tuesday’s Xtreme Bulls Tour event in Weatherford featuring many of the top bull riders in ProRodeo. The series will continue through the following four performances of Weatherford’s rodeo.
Contestants will gather dollars at each event, and those with the most earnings at the end of the series will win an Rtic cooler and will be part of a drawing for a RAM 1500 pickup on Oct. 14 in Henderson, Texas. But it all kicks off in Weatherford.
“Everybody around here looks forward to the rodeo every year,” said J.C. Moore, chairman of the volunteer committee that produces the annual rodeo. “We’ve got the Xtreme Bulls on Tuesday night. It’s a crowd-pleaser. Everybody likes to watch good bull riding, and this one is something to see.
“Tuesday is a night you don’t want to miss.”
That includes the Randy Brown concert in the arena right after the Xtreme Bulls event ends. In fact, there are concerts every night after the performances: Steve Helms on Wednesday, The Statesboro Revue on Thursday, Austin Allsup on Friday and Brandon Rhyder on Saturday.
“They’re getting two shows every night,” Moore said. “They’re getting the rodeo and the concert every night for the price of one.”
The rodeo has all the high-flying action it’s always, thanks to the staff from Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, one of the premier rodeo producers in the country.
“We’re going to have high-caliber bucking stock in here because Pete always brings first-rate stock,” Moore said. “The personnel he has working with him is just as high-caliber, very professional. They know how to get things done.”
Part of that personnel is entertainer and rodeo clown Cody Sosebee, who has been nominated for Clown of the Year each of the past several seasons. He adds to the family-friendly entertainment and world-class competition fans have come to expect in Weatherford.
“He was out here a few years ago,” Moore said of Sosebee. “He’s an awesome entertainer, and he mixes well with the crowd. Everybody around here loves him.”
Besides the regular mutton busting and calf scramble events, the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse is adding a patriotic flavor to this year’s event. Each night before the rodeo, U.S. Army veteran Dana Bowman – a double amputee – will parachute into the arena with a giant American flag.
Bowman was a member of the Army’s elite parachute team, the Golden Nights, when he lost his legs in a training accident in 1994. Nine months after the accident, he became the first double amputee to re-enlist into the U.S. Army.
“That’s just going to be the first of many crowd-pleasers at our rodeo,” Moore said. “This is definitely one of those rodeos you don’t want to miss.”
