Weekly Recap

Cowboy Christmas is over, but PRCA competition kept up the pace during the second week of July, as many of this week’s top scores and times came from the same competitors as last week’s.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they certainly make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With about 650 PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere each year, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

There were 28 PRCA competitions July 9-15, and each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event during that period.

Bareback riders Clayton Biglow and Wyatt Denny each made 88-point rides at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, July 12. Biglow’s ride was on Dakota Rodeo’s War Rock and Denny’s ride was on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Robinson Bulls’ Sozo.

For the second week in a row, steer wrestler Will Lummus produced the fastest time. On July 6, he made a 3.2-second run at Estes Park, Colo. On July 11, he clocked in at 3.7 seconds at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Two sets of team ropers made 3.9-second runs at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah. Dustin Egusquiza and Kory Koontz made their run July 12, while Kellan Johnson and Jhett Johnson made theirs July 13. This is the second consecutive week Egusquiza and Koontz have made the fastest run of the week, making a 3.5-second run at the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo in Oakley City, Utah, July 6.

Saddle bronc rider Stetson Wright made a 90-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Rich N Fancy at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, July 14.

Tie-down roper Cody Craig made a 7.5-second run at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, July 11.

Steer roper Jason Evans made the fastest run for the second week in a row. Evans made a 9.5-second run at the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche, S.D., July 2. Then on July 10, he made a 10.2-second run at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo.

Barrel racer Joanna Reid made a 14.36-second run at the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo in Lake Luzerne, N.Y., July 14.

Bull rider Levi Gray made a 91-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Newsome at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, July 13.
