For WPRA barrel racer Jill Welsh the last several weeks have been a dream come true. She started her winning streak in June at the Livermore (Calif.) Rodeo and followed that up with her first set of Silver Spurs after winning the Reno Rodeo. The win in Reno led into an even bigger Cowboy Christmas week for the Parker, Ariz., cowgirl. With $3,568,182 up for grabs across all rodeo events at 32 Christmas rodeos, there was a lot of cash to be won.
Welsh collected $23,976 at four rodeos to not only be the biggest WPRA money earner but top money earner of all rodeo contestants. PRCA saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss was the big money winner in the PRCA with $22,791 followed by Tuf Cooper with $22,640. Welsh moved to 10th in the WPRA World Standings with a total of $43,255 on the season.

Welsh’s biggest check came at the Greeley (Colo.) Independence Stampede where she won $10,550 after finishing second in the first round, shared the win in the Final round with Sarah Rose McDonald and won the average with a two run time of 34.40 seconds. She also won the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede worth $9,517 and picked up checks in Prescott, Ariz. ($2,011) and St. Paul, Ore. ($1,898).

Taylor Jacob of Carmine, Texas, was close behind with $23,385 in earnings. Jacob moved to seventh in the world with $48,155 and is eager to get back to the Wrangler NFR. Jacob’s biggest check came North of the Border winning the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede worth $11,684. She also won money in Airdrie, Alberta ($1,971), Prescott, Ariz. ($3,656), Livingston, Mont. ($5,360) and Cody, Wyo. ($714).

Rounding out the top three was Callie duPerier finishing the Fourth of July week with $20,262 in earnings. She collected checks at: St. Paul, Ore. ($8,437), Molalla, Ore. ($3,262), Cody, Wyo. ($2,022), Livingston, Mont. ($871), Red Lodge, Mont. ($1,345), Belle Fourche, S.D. ($3,112) and Airdrie, Alberta ($1,213)
