Western Canada’s Best Dairy Cattle vie for Top Spot Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic

Calgary – Come see where your milk comes from, learn what makes a great dairy cow and meet the people who raise and care for them! With bragging rights on the line, the best dairy cattle in western Canada are at Stampede Park for the 2018 Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic Championship Show. The popular event for dairy producers takes place Saturday, April 28, in the historic Victoria Pavilion.

Dairy shows have been taking place at Stampede Park for more than 100 years, and in 2018 more than 100 Jerseys and Holsteins will be judged on their conformation and characteristics in 34 classes. There will also be three showmanship classes to finish off the Dairy Classic Championship Show Saturday afternoon.

Five Facts about the Dairy Classic & Dairy Cattle:

1. Dairy producers from Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia are in attendance.
2. From pee-wee to adult, all ages of cattle producers will be showing their best cattle.
3. An average dairy cow produces more than 30 litres of milk a day.
4. Approximately 95 per cent of dairy cattle in Canada are Holsteins.
5. Dairy cattle have been shown at Stampede Park since 1886. (originally the Calgary Exhibition)
