‘What’s New’ at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

A famous trick roping artist, interactive Lego exhibit, and an Agrobotics challenge are just a taste of the new thrill seeking shows and attractions you will see 2016 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Check out what’s new on the grounds at the Stock Show & Rodeo, February 11th-28th.

Rodeo
We are proud to introduce Internationally acclaimed horseman and trick roping artist, Tomas Garcilazo to the San Antonio Rodeo. Tomas has performed throughout the world and has been featured on Broadway stage, theatre, European entertainment tours and guest performances for Presidents of the United States and Mexico. Tomas, a native of Mexico City, was introduced at an early age to his family heritage and tradition of “La Charreria” a skill performed through the generations only by the Mexican Charro. Charros take extreme pride in their highly developed horsemanship and roping abilities. Tomas was been named the PRCA Dress Act of the Year in 2007 and 2012 and 2013.

Attractions and Shows
Brickfest LIVE! – Brickfest Live! is a LEGO Fan Experience built to inspire, educate, and entertain with LEGO bricks. Throughout the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Brick Fest Live will showcase LEGO attractions, exhibits and activities to create a memorable experience for all guests, at any age, and any level of LEGO fandom.

The Ultimate BMX Stunt Show Experience – Come see an exciting show featuring one of the Best BMX Stunt Show Teams in the Nation! You will sit on the edge of your seats as riders fly high and perform daring stunts! The team is comprised of multiple National Champions that have competed in major events including the X-Games, Dew Tour & RedBull competitions.

Brad’s World Reptiles – Brad’s World Reptiles is driven by Brad’s passion for education and nature. He has traveled the globe accumulating vast knowledge about the natural world. Brad shares his knowledge with thrilling stories that entertain and educate. His show includes some of the most beautiful and exotic animals on our planet!

Gypsy Time Traveler – Michel Olson and Christy Horne are a husband and wife team who travel all across the United States in “Florence” their Recreational Castle, Blacksmith Shop and Stage. They combine fabulous storytelling with anvil accompaniment in their award winning show!

H20 Exhibits – New to the Texas Wildlife Expo is our very own 40 foot fishing pond. Children, with the help of their parents, will have a chance to catch and release one of the 1500 fish swimming around.

Livestock/Horse Show
Agrobotics Challenge – This exciting new contest is designed to inspire young people and develop an early interest in robotics engineering and technology with an agricultural focus. This is a team competition for Texas 4-H and FFA members. This fun challenge will test the construction skills and proficiency of the youth. The general public is invited to witness the robots in action during the finals of the Agrobotics Challenge.

Youth Horse Challenge – The Youth Horse Challenge is an all-youth competition testing knowledge, skills, and abilities related to horsemanship. Contestants compete in rounds covering everything from business skills to riding abilities.

Landscape Challenge – This novel contest was initiated to promote landscape design knowledge and professionalism to youth for future generations of Green Industry professionals, and to educate the public on the beauty and value of landscaping. Students will be tested on their landscape design skills and knowledge of plants, plant pests and diseases. The Landscape Challenge will culminate with a final round of landscaping plots on the grounds, which will be an attraction for the general public during the entire Stock Show & Rodeo.

Jr. Wether Doe Show – This new event was created for junior exhibitors to show their non-registered breeding goat females. It is intended to be an exhibition specifically focused on does suited for market wether production and will take place at 6 p.m. on Opening Day.

Performers
From new radio-dominating pop stars to CMA Award winners, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is providing entertainment for everyone. Pop artist Becky G is making her first rodeo appearance, along with Jason Derulo. To keep it country, patrons will also see first time appearances by Turnpike Troubadours, Old Dominion, and recent award-winning sensation Chris Stapleton. Rock n’ roll powerhouse Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, and 2016 Grammy-nominee group, La Maquinaria Norteña, will also make their debut.

SA Rodeo Mobile App
Made with the visitor experience in mind; the SA Rodeo mobile app allows downloaders to experience the Rodeo in a completely different way. With the app, you will receive the most up-to-date information regarding entertainment announcements, ticket availability and exclusive deals. You can check out the detailed list of events and activities for the day and personalize your schedule while never getting lost with our interactive map. You can even put a pin on your parking space! The app is available for the iPhone and Android, and can be downloaded for FREE in respective app stores.

Shopping
The former marketplaces have a new all-encompassing name of “The Shops at the Rodeo.” Over 600 vendors will set up inside climate controlled buildings- the two Expo Halls and the Freeman Coliseum. Shops will offer home furnishings, accessories, leather goods, agricultural related items, equipment, custom boots, clothing and jewelry.

Established in 1949, The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has grown to be one of the largest and most prestigious single events in the city, with over 1.6 million visitors entering the grounds each year. The success of the organization is attributed to over 6,000 volunteers who give countless hours to the organization. With community, donor and volunteer support, the organization has donated over $160 million to the youth of Texas through scholarships, grants, endowments, auctions, a calf scramble program and show premiums.
