World Class Cutting Horse Competition Set to Begin at Stampede Park

Calgary – Experience the incredible athleticism of the top cutting horses in North America at the Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity, presented by Wrangler. Horses and riders from across Western Canada and the United States will be competing in this prestigious event in the Nutrien Western Event Centre at Stampede Park beginning Wednesday, October 10 and continuing through Sunday, October 14.

The highlight of this high-energy competition is the Saturday night Cut of the West. Offering free admission to the public, the evening features the championship competition in the Open Derby Final as well as the Open Classic/Challenge Final. Guests are welcomed to browse the marketplace throughout the evening for western lifestyle items including artwork, clothing, jewelry and furniture. There will also be unique items up for bid in a silent auction to benefit the Bill Collins Youth Excellence Scholarship.

For those unfamiliar with the sport of Cutting, a horse and rider are faced with a herd of cattle and two and a half minutes on the clock. Working together they must select, or cut, a single cow from of the herd. It’s then left up to the horse to use its instincts and agility to keep the cow from returning to the herd. ‘Smart Bud’ listening technology will be available for those who wish to listen to expert commentary and insight on each run. Come see what Cutting’s all about!
