World-Renowned Impressionistic Artist to Join National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Prix de West
Mian Situ joins notable art exhibition.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Mian Situ will display his work at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s 45th Annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition & Sale, June 9 – August 6, 2017.
Prix de West features works ranging from historical subject matter that reflect the early days of the West to more contemporary and impressionistic artistic expressions. Landscapes, wildlife art, and illustrative scenes are always highlighted in the exhibition.
“Our 45th annual Prix de West exhibition and sale is both a visual and social showcase of how the Museum celebrates the American West through incredible art,” said Chief Financial Officer and Interim President and CEO Gary Moore. “It is our honor to host famed principal artists such as Mian Situ along with their paintings and sculptures of the highest quality found in today’s studios, galleries, and museums.”
Born in Southern China, Situ received his formal art training in his native homeland of Guangdong, formerly Canton. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Guangzhou Institute of Fine Art, and earned a Masters in Fine Art a few years later.
Situ’s deep-toned impressionistic paintings of the backcountry often focus on people going about their daily lives in their small villages and farming communities. His artistic versatility is evident in his works, which have more recently been inspired by western historical themes and American landscapes. Since 1995, Situ has received many national art awards and will contend for more at Prix de West.
“After visiting the Museum and Prix de West in 2016, I was so impressed by the quality of the wonderful art works, the spacious exhibition hall, and the enthusiasm generated at the show,” said Situ. “It is an honor for me to participate and have my paintings included as a Prix de West artist.”
