WPRA World Finals Comes to a Close

Waco, Texas — The WPRA World Finals at the Extraco Event Center in Waco, Texas, came to a close Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2016 with four more world champions being crowned and riding away on their new Tao Tao Scooters.
Laney Robinson of Mars Hill, N.C., had a record breaking year in the WPRA Junior Division winning the world with an astonishing $55,816 in earnings. Unfortunately, Robinson didn’t add to her season total at the WPRA World Finals but she went home with some amazing awards thanks to the wonderful WPRA sponsors. In addition to the Tao Tao Scooter, she also won a Circle Y saddle and a Montana Silversmith belt buckle to name a few.
Dally Parker of Pilot Point, Texas, captured the average title in the Junior Division in a two run time of 30.533 seconds aboard SR My Lucky Charm. Parker outdistanced Karsyn Daniels aboard ZZ’s Jetting Muffin with a 30.671.
Other world champions crowned on Sunday included three in the Futurity and Derby division. Former Wrangler NFR qualifier Sue Smith won the Futurity 1D, while Colleen Vondra took home the 2D and Randee Hedrick won the Derby division. Smith captured the title aboard Dashs Centerfold with 660 point and $45,811 in earnings. Her closest competitor was Kassie Green and Lenas Famous Blondie with 330 points and $7,121. Vondra of Union Grove, Wis., aboard Chainy Oaks Flitfire won the 2D Futurity with 160 points and $1,081 in earnings. Hedrick of Avila Beach, Calif., took the Derby aboard Colonels Cash Express with 165 points and $1,260.

Margo Crowther won the card holder race with the money counting toward her 2017 WPRA World Standings. Crowther of Fort Myers, Fla., finished with a three run total of 45.39 seconds and pocketed $7,311. She finished with a 15.263 second run in the first round, which was good for sixth aboard She’s Packin Fame. She improved her time in the second round in 15.987 to finish second and was fourth in the short round in a time of 15.041. Tiany Schuster and Hoosier Fame turned in the fastest time with a 14.954 in the first round aboard Hoosier Fame.
Rounding out the winners on Sunday was WPRA permit holder Shelby McCauley on Handlin Doc with a two run total of 30.604 seconds.
