Xtreme Fireworks to Fly in Cody

by Jim Bainbridge | Jun 23, 2014

CODY, Wyo. – The PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour returns to Cody on Mon., June 30, to kick off the 95th annual Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede Rodeo. The Cody-Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls tour stop is featured as part of the PRCA’s 4th of July “Cowboy Christmas”– and it offers an “All-American” lineup of leading PRCA bull riders.

Forty of the world’s top bull riders will converge on Cody Stampede Park to take their shot at the prestigious Cody-Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls title. The event will provide a “reunion of last year’s WNFR bull riders,” with headliners scheduled to compete at Cody including all 15 bull riding qualifiers from the 2013 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, matched against the rankest PRCA bulls, many of which were selected for this past December’s Wrangler NFR.

Four-time and reigning World Champion J.W. Harris, of Mullin, Texas, is in the lineup along with 2012 World Champion Cody Teel, of Kountze, Texas, and 2011 World Champion Shane Proctor, of Grand Coulee, Wash.

Other notables competing include 2013Wrangler NFR qualifiers Trey Benton III, Rock Island, Texas; Chandler Bownds, Lubbock, Texas; Parker Breding, Edgar, Mont.; Cody Campbell, Summerville, Ore.; Cooper Davis, Jasper, Texas; Cole Echols, Elm Grove, La.; Elliot Jacoby, Fredericksburg, Texas; Trevor Kastner, Ardmore, Okla.; Josh Koschel, Nunn, Colo.; Tyler Smith, Fruita, Colo.; Tyler Willis, Wheatland, Wyo., and Steve Woolsey, Payson, Utah.

Also scheduled to compete are 19 of the top 20 men in the current Windham Weaponry High Performance PRCA World Standings, including rookie sensation Sage Steele Kimzey, of Strong City, Okla., currently ranked first in the world standings.

All 40 riders will compete in a long go, beginning at 7 p.m. (MT), and the top 12 will be brought back for the finals, where the Cody-Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls champion will be crowned based on the highest total score.

The payout for the Cody-Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls event is over $45,000. Monies won at PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour stops count towards the 2014 PRCA World Standings, which determine qualifiers for the Dec. 4-13 Wrangler NFR.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.Codystampederodeo.com or by calling 1.800.207.0744. Ticket prices are $20 for general admission. The Cody Stampede Park is located on Yellowstone Ave., west of downtown Cody.

Local sponsors of the Xtreme Bulls Tour include Wyoming Travel & Tourism, Buffalo Bills/Yellowstone Country and Yellowstone National Park Lodges.

The 2014 Tour features events across the U.S., and will conclude with the Tour Finale in Ellensburg, Wash., over Labor Day weekend. The 2014 PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour will have a combined purse of $400,000. Money earned on the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour counts toward the PRCA World Standings, which determine Wrangler NFR qualifiers.

MAV-TV, available in 33 million households nationwide, is the new home of the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour and also the new broadcast home of the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo (RNCFR) and the All-American ProRodeo Finals, presented by Pendleton Whisky.

“Since its creation in 2002, MAV-TV has had a slant towards the extreme sports, making this a great fit with our bull riding tour and America’s original extreme sport, rodeo,” said PRCA Commissioner Karl Stressman. “Since being purchased by Lucas Oil, an international powerhouse in the lubricant and motorsports industry, the network has experienced rapid growth. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to partner with MAV-TV and look forward to the expanded possibilities it will bring.”
