You Could be the Next 2019 Calgary Stampede Poster Artist!

Calgary – Calling young artists ages 15-24 years old from across Alberta! The Calgary Stampede and Calgary Stampede Foundation are excited to announce the 2019 Calgary Stampede Poster Competition. Celebrating the accomplishments of young Albertans, the 2019 Calgary Stampede Poster Competition invites young artists to submit their best works of art with the hope of being selected as a finalist to create their vision for the iconic 2019 Calgary Stampede poster.

“The Stampede Poster is the oldest and most iconic work of art for the Stampede. It’s visible world-wide as the symbol for our organization for the year and throughout the rest of history,” explains Dana Peers, first vice-chairman of the Calgary Stampede. “The Calgary Stampede and Calgary Stampede Foundation believe that youth are our future, and that strong youth means strong community. We’re always striving for new ways to engage and educate youth, and this is just one more way to make that happen.”

The Poster Competition is about more than the selection of a poster for the Calgary Stampede; the competition focuses on youth achievement and development by fostering and developing artistic skills. This program takes youth on a journey of craftsmanship and creation, an experience just as valuable as claiming the top prize.

The top 30 contestants will be invited to participate in a master class workshop with experienced artists and mentors. The top eight contestants will be chosen to continue working with artist mentors to create their vision of the 2019 Calgary Stampede poster. In addition, the top eight contestants will each receive art supplies and a scholarship towards their education, making this poster competition one of the largest arts awards in Canada! The first place winner’s artwork will be featured as the official 2019 Calgary Stampede Poster and they will receive a $10,000 scholarship.

“We look forward to seeing the art submissions as reflections of personal expression of the passionate youth across Alberta,” Peers says, “and we also look forward to taking the successful applicants on a wild ride of art, mentorship, growth, history, culture and exceptional Stampede experiences.”
