Young Artisans Reap Awards, Scholarships at Stock Show Art Contest

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, January 4, 2017 – Approximately 1,200 young artists recently competed in an exciting contest reflecting the spirit and semblance of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and its legendary western heritage. Entrants came from 131 schools from as far as Presidio, Texas – 550 miles away. Vying for awards, college scholarships and cash prizes, the contest offers five divisions for individual entries, three classroom divisions and a special, three-dimensional, division for high school students. Winning pieces will be showcased in the Amon G. Carter Jr Exhibits Hall during the 23-day run of the Stock Show, with the remaining artworks exhibited at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.

A panel of professional artists and educators judged the contest. Besides winners in each division, overall awards are bestowed on the following top six contestants:

  • Arden Johnson, All Saints’ Episcopal (Fort Worth) – Grand Champion
  • Martha Galan, Sam Rayburn High (Pasadena) – Reserve Grand Champion
  • Hannah Smith, Granbury High School (Granbury) – 1st place
  • Isabel Logan, All Saints’ Episcopal (Fort Worth) – 2nd place
  • Cori Greenfield, All Saints’ Episcopal (Fort Worth) – 3rd place
  • Catherine Nguyen, Frank Dobie High School (Houston) – 4th place

On January 7, the Junior League of Fort Worth will host an on-line auction where these winners can increase their scholarship earnings up to $10,000.
