Reese Riemer

Reese Riemer – Stinnett, Texas ($85,428)
3-time WNFR qualifier

Just like the temperatures, Reese Riemer heated up the rodeo arena the end of July and is now headed to his third Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

It wasn’t that Reese hadn’t had any success earlier in the year. He won the Guymon (Oklahoma) Pioneer Days the first part of May. He also got the win at Oakley City, Utah over the Fourth of July. However, his name didn’t appear in the tie-down roping world standings until July 23rd.

That came after wins at Spanish Fork, Utah and Colorado Springs. He jumped up to ninth. Reese had just nine weeks left in the regular season to earn enough to stay in the top 15. That’s exactly what he did winning nearly $30,000 and finishing in 11th place with $85,428.

Reese was born and raised on a ranch in the panhandle of Texas. His father was a roper and trained a lot of roping horses. His mother competed at the NFR in 1978 in the WPRA barrel racing. When he’s not on the road chasing buckles, he is home working on the ranch, practicing, working on his horsemanship or hunting.

Of all of those things, hunting is his favorite. It’s an opportunity for him to concentrate on something besides rodeo, but still gives him time to be outdoors and find the target at the end of the chase.

When he was a teenager, he got interested in black powder hunting. His father likes to tell a story about him leaving the ranch one morning with his rifle, and shortly returning with a deer. After delivering that animal, he went back out again and five minutes later they heard one shot and another. Reese had shot a coyote and when a bobcat came to check out the coyote, he bagged it as well.

Whatever he pursues, he takes it on with a quest to be the best. He graduated from college with a 4.0 GPA and will use his education as the fourth generation on their ranch when he is done with rodeo. In the meantime, his family is leaving ranching behind to cheer on their favorite tie-down roper for 10 days in December.
