Fun Facts about Shay: Shay is a third-generation rodeo contestant, but the first to qualify for the WNFR. His father and grandfather both were tie-down ropers. Grandpa Truett Carroll missed the 1967 NFR by $17. He got to watch Shay in the 2014 WNFR and saw him win Rodeo Houston in 2015 before he passed away. Shay won the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association team roping in 2012 competing for Northeastern Junior College at Sterling, Colorado.
