History of the Crown: Miss Rodeo Mississippi

The Miss Rodeo Mississippi pageant began in 1974, with Tracey Thompson becoming the State’s first Miss Rodeo and wearing the original crown designated for the title. In 2005, the crown was redesigned to the one we use today and was crafted by Yellowhair Buckles. The red stone represents our history as prior to 2010. The stones were all originally turquoise, and when our state won Miss Rodeo America for the first time, we incorporated the red stone to commemorate this milestone. Generally, the crown is passed down each year, but any Miss Rodeo Mississippi that is crowned Miss Rodeo America is given her state crown that she wore all year as a gift from the board to honor her achievement. A new one is then passed down again to the next title holder.
