#InCaseYouMissedIt: Cooper Tires Invitational

By: Darci Miller

With no fans in the arena and strict safety guidelines in place at the Lazy E Arena in Oklahoma this weekend, Jose Vitor Leme proved that even in these uncertain times, one thing hasn’t changed: he’s the man to beat. Plus, Silvano Alves reached a career milestone and a new bull took the lead in the world title race. Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

On the Unleash The Beast…

The man, the myth, the legend Jose Vitor Leme continued his torrid 2020 season, winning his fourth event of the year at the Cooper Tires Invitational, presented by Ariat, improving his riding percentage to 75.76% and increasing his lead atop the world standings.

Daylon Swearingen, the closest man to Leme in the world standings that competed in Oklahoma, also made his presence known with a third-place finish in Round 1.

With his 78.75-point ride on Red Dawn in Round 1, three-time World Champion Silvano Alves tied Chris Shivers for fifth-most qualified rides in PBR history. The next day, Alves rode Newsom in Round 2 to take over sole possession of fifth place all-time.

In the bull race, Air Support overtook Chiseled for the No. 1 ranking with his 46-point out against Mauricio Moreira.

Also in the winner’s circle this weekend, Lucas Divino and Stetson Lawrence split the Round 1 win.

Divino missed the championship round with a sprained riding hand and is questionable for next weekend, while 2019 Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel was just dealing with some soreness.

On Sunday, the bull riders of the PBR took to social media to wish the moms in their lives a happy Mother’s Day.
