PRCA Standings Shuffle: 34 Move Up in Top 15

If opportunity knocks, then the first week of August was pounding at the door as there were more ProRodeo competitions Aug. 5-11 than any other week in the 2019 season.

With the end of the regular season seven weeks away, ProRodeo athletes competed for $2.3 million at the 47 competitions across North America last week.

Six of last week’s competitions featured six-figure payouts, four of which were ProRodeo Tour events:

• Lea County PRCA Rodeo in Lovington, N.M.: $233,203
• Farm-City Pro Rodeo in Hermiston, Ore.: $214,899
• Sikeston (Mo.) Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo: $160,312
• Lawton (Okla.) Rangers Rodeo: $149,339

The two non-Tour rodeos to break the six-figure-payout mark were:

• Strathmore (Alberta) Stampede: $213,803
• Cache County Fair And Rodeo in Logan, Utah: $100,835

With so much money on the table, 34 cowboys saw their position improve within the Top 15.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the world standings during the summer run establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence.

Nobody knows this better than team roping header Dustin Egusquiza and steer roper Chris Glover as both cowboys jumped five spots in their respective events within the PRCA | RAM World Standings.

Egusquiza moved from 18th to 13th in team roping heeling thanks to winning Sikeston’s rodeo and $5,749 apiece with his heeler Jake Long. The duo picked up an additional $3,882 for placing fourth in Hermiston.

Glover’s move from 12th to seventh was more of a grind, involving four competitions in three states. The Colorado cowboy won the Yuma (Colo.) County Fair & Rodeo for $2,777 and the Building Champions Rodeo in Wright, Wyo., Aug. 9, for $1,800.

Glover tied for second in the first round at the Kimball – Banner Fair and Rodeo in Kimball, Neb., and placed fourth in the first round at Building Champions with Sioux Ranch competition in Wright, Aug. 10.

With some of the biggest checks on the line in the coming weeks, big jumps like Egusquiza’s and Glover’s are sure to happen again.

The following cowboys also moved up within the Top 15 last week.

Four Spots

• Riley Duvall moved from 11th to seventh in steer wrestling.
• Trey Kimzey moved from 13th to ninth in bull riding.
• Rhen Richard moved from 15th to 11th in tie-down roping.
• Roger Branch moved from 18th to 14th in steer roping.
• Brody Cress moved from 19th to 15th in saddle bronc riding.

Three Spots

• Dawson Hay moved from 10th to seventh in saddle bronc riding.
• Tyler Pearson moved from 16th to 13th in steer wrestling.
• Landon McClaugherty moved from 16th to 13th in steer roping.

Two Spots

• Coleman Proctor moved from fourth to second in team roping heading.
• Kyle Irwin moved from eighth to sixth in steer wrestling.
• Marty Yates moved from ninth to seventh in tie-down roping.
• Tyler Wade moved from 14th to 12th in team roping heading.
• Tyler Milligan moved from 14th to 12th in tie-down roping.
• Tim O’Connell moved from 17th to 15th in bareback riding.
• Cody Lee moved from 17th to 15th in steer roping.

One Spot

• Ryan Motes moved from second to first in team roping heeling.
• Jake Long moved from fourth to third in team roping heeling.
• Sterling Crawley moved from fourth to third in saddle bronc riding.
• Haven Meged moved from fourth to third in tie-down roping.
• Clayton Sellars moved from fifth to fourth in bull riding.
• Junior Noguiera moved from sixth to fifth in team roping heeling.
• Jake Watson moved from seventh to sixth in saddle bronc riding.
• Trey Benton III moved from eighth to seventh in bull riding.
• Clint Laye moved from 11th to 10th in bareback riding.
• Hunter Koch moved from 11th to 10th in team roping heeling.
• Tanner Aus moved from 12th to 11th in bareback riding.
• Tanner Brunner moved from 12th to 11th in steer wrestling.
• Brenten Hall moved from 12th to 11th in team roping heading.
• Chase Tryan moved from 13th to 12th in team roping heeling.
• Matt Sherwood moved from 15th to 14th in team roping heading.
• Jordan Hansen moved from 15th to 14th in bull riding.
• Daylon Swearingen moved from 16th to 15th in bull riding.
