PRCA Standings Shuffle: 39 Move Up in Top 15

While the old adage claims money talks, in ProRodeo it veritably shouts when it comes to competing for a spot in the Top 15 of the PRCA | RAM World Standings.

Nobody knows this better than bull rider Roscoe Jarboe, who jumped 10 spots last week, going from 22nd to 12th after winning the Dodge City (Kan.) Roundup Rodeo to earn $5,302 and placing fourth at Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg for $1,458.

The Idaho cowboy is a three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (2016-18) with more than $572,447 in career earnings since his rookie year in 2015.

Jarboe missed two months of the 2019 season after injuring the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Angelina Benefit Rodeo in Lufkin, Texas. He was out from the end of April until the end of June, returning to the chutes at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo.

The 24-year-old has risen through the standings this season by earning checks at some of the biggest competitions. Jarboe won the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede to earn $5,866. Among his other big scores are:

• $5,500 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
• $4,500 at RodeoHouston
• $3,420 at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah
• $2,704 at the San Angelo (Texas) Xtreme Bulls
• $2,049 at Los Fresnos (Texas) Rodeo

With eight weeks left in the regular season, ProRodeo athletes competed for more than $1 million at the 12 competitions held across North America, July 27 through Aug. 2.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler NFR. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the world standings during the summer run establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence.

With the Sikeston (Mo.) Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo and the Lawton (Okla.) Rangers Rodeo happening this week, big jumps like Jarboe’s could happen again.

Other cowboys to improve their position within the Top 15 last week include the following:

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the Wrangler NFR. With two months left between now and the end of the 2020 season, it’s noteworthy to see who is on the cusp of breaking into the Top 15.

Isaac Diaz moved from 17th in saddle bronc riding and is 64 cents away from breaking into the Top 15.

More changes in the world standings are likely in the coming week, particularly for those competing in Sikeston and Lawton.

Fans can catch four of this week’s ProRodeo competitions on the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus App.

The Yuma (Colo.) County Fair & Rodeo will stream Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (ET), and Aug. 5 at 9:30 p.m.

The Sikeston (Mo.) Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will be Aug. 5-8 at 8 p.m.

The Lawton (Okla.) Rangers Rodeo will be Aug. 5-8 at 8:30 p.m.

The outcomes of these rodeos, and the rest, are sure to make an impact on the world standings and possibly on who will qualify for the 2020 Wrangler NFR and 2020 Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping.
